TECHNICAL TERMS

DEFINITIONS:

QUALITY

The totality of features and characteristics of an item or an activity which bears on its ability to satisfy a given need by conformity to appropriate requirements.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Those actions necessary to provide confidence that an item or activity will conform to requirements and that those requirements truly represent the given need.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT REPRESENTATIVE (QMR)

The person responsible for ensuring that the requirements of Quality System are understood, implemented and maintained.

NON-CONFORMANCE

A deficiency in characteristic, documentation or procedure which renders the quality of an item or activity unacceptable or indeterminate.

VERIFICATION

Investigation to confirm that an activity or service is in accordance with the specified requirements. Verification differs from inspection in the sense that verification is an investigation confirming that, for example, a specified inspection is performed.

THE COMPANY

Means the Anscor Swire Ship Management Corp. (ASSMC).

THE OWNER

The registered owner of the vessel known as the Client and/or Principal.

THE SHIP MANAGER

The manager appointed to manage the vessel on behalf of the owner and can also be the Principal.

MARINE PERSONNEL

Includes Officers (Deck or Engine), Petty Officers, Ratings, Hotel Staff and Cadets/Apprentices appointed to serve onboard seagoing vessels.

AN AGENT

Is a person having the express or implied authority to represent or act on behalf of another person or company. Agents are appointed to look after owners/managers.

THE MASTER

Is the Officer in command of a vessel responsible to the owner/manager for the safety of the vessel, the crew (Marine Personnel) and its cargo.

POEA

Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.
Under the Department of Labor and Employment, it is the government body responsible in regulating the Overseas Employment industry in the Philippines.

OWWA

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
A government body created primarily to look after the welfare of Filipino
Overseas Contract Workers.

MARINA Maritime Industry Authority.

PCG Philippine Coast Guard.

All other applicable definitions in accordance with ISO 8402, provided however, not in contradiction with
any of the above and the contents of this manual, in which case shall be clearly stated.
